On the 28th of September, 2023, the school held an impressive investiture ceremony for the newly elected student council leaders. The atmosphere was charged with excitement and pride as students, teachers, and parents gathered to witness this significant event. The ceremony began with the melodious strains of the UAE national anthem, setting a tone of respect and patriotism for the proceedings.
Following the anthem, Ms. Ilne Gevers, the head of the primary school, took to the stage to deliver an inspiring welcome speech. She spoke eloquently about the importance of leadership and the responsibilities that come with it. Ms Gevers emphasised the value of integrity, dedication, and teamwork, qualities that the new student leaders are expected to embody. Her words set the stage for the primary school students' investiture, instilling a sense of purpose and honour in the young leaders.
The investiture of the primary school students was a highlight of the event. Each student leader was called to the stage to receive their badge of office, a symbol of their new roles and responsibilities. The young leaders beamed with pride as they accepted their badges, their families and friends applauding enthusiastically. This moment marked the beginning of their journey as representatives of their peers, tasked with the important role of voicing their concerns and working towards the betterment of the school community.
Next, Ms. Nicole Haynes, the principal of GEMS Westminster School, addressed the gathering. Her speech was both motivational and insightful, highlighting the broader implications of student leadership. Ms. Haynes spoke about the importance of developing leadership skills at a young age and how these skills contribute to personal growth and future success. She urged the student leaders to uphold the school's values and to be role models for their peers. The motto "One Tribe One Family," she explained, signifies the unity and cooperation that are essential for a thriving school environment.
Following Ms. Haynes's inspiring words, the investiture of the secondary school student leaders took place. These older students, now seasoned members of the school community, were ready to take on their new roles with a deeper understanding of the responsibilities involved. As each name was called, the students stepped forward confidently to receive their badges, signifying their commitment to their new roles. The sense of pride and accomplishment was palpable, as these young leaders prepared to take on the mantle of guiding their fellow students and upholding the school's standards.
The ceremony concluded with the newly invested student council members taking their official oath of office. This oath, taken in the presence of their proud parents and teachers, marked the culmination of a memorable and meaningful event.
