My memorable art competition journey

Written By: Syed Behram Ali, Grade 4

I am glad I participated in the Gems WSR 10th Year Anniversary Art Competition held in December 2023. As a passionate artist, it was a great opportunity and experience for me to showcase my artistic skills.

I believe that art is not what you see, but what you make others see (Edgar Degas).

My main focus in art is to portray my point of view of life. Winning the art competition was an indescribable feeling of joy and fulfillment. I aim to create art that stimulates my audience in some way, creating memories, curiosity, or thoughts. “An artist's concern is to capture beauty wherever he finds it” (Kazuo Ishiguro).

I spent countless hours creating the art of Sheikh Zayed and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It was one of my masterpiece artworks. Art is intended to appeal to and connect with human emotion. I believe that the key to success in any endeavor is thorough preparation.

The appreciation and encouragement I received from my teachers boosted my confidence and reinforced my belief in the power of dedication and hard work. Patience and time are key to perfect art. I faced many challenges and difficulties while creating it; I even mistakenly used the wrong color and had to start all over again. Life is about facing challenges, and it can change in a moment. The ability to adapt and focus is crucial. Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance.

I was overwhelmed with excitement and joy when I was selected for the best art. It was a moment to be cherished. My confidence as an artist has intensified, and I will continue to pursue this path.
